Growing up in Boston, Massachusetts, Julie got her start at age 17 working for the Boston Phoenix, the entertainment resource for the metropolitan area, while only in her senior year in High School.  She then went on to attend Berklee College of Music and Emerson College, with a Major in Media Studies and Music Business and a Minor in Marketing/Public Relations.  While attending college, she worked for one of the largest Top 40 radio shows in the world “John Garabedian’s Open House Party” (www.openhouseparty.com) as well as handled the Boston street marketing for Fly Life Music (www.flylifemusic.com). She also freelanced for a music website where she coordinated and conducted interviews and wrote features on such artists as Disturbed, BBMak, Fastball and many others. (Yep, this was a while ago)

By August of 2002, Julie made the move to Los Angeles and immediately began working for Mosaic Media Group/Atlas Third Rail assisting the Day to Day Manager for The Goo Goo Dolls. A short year later she was offered an opportunity to work at Hollywood Records/Disney in the Radio Promotion Department. Over the course of the next three years she worked on radio projects for artists Hilary Duff, Jesse McCartney, Josh Kelley, Breaking Benjamin, Queen and more.   Shortly after leaving Hollywood Records, Julie began managing a San Diego rock band and began developing what would soon become her own management company. She then picked up an LA indie/rap-duo and quickly landed them a publishing deal. Within months she had another singer/songwriter and began developing all three artists from the ground up. While keeping her management clients, she transitioned for a (very) short period to Creative Artists Agency (CAA) in the International Music Department under Agent and good friend, Jason Miller, where she worked on tours for artists Beyonce Knowles, Hoobastank, Stacie Orrico and other CAA clients.

By November of 2006 her management company had grown to what is now Black Unicorn Music LLC; incorporating management, licensing, artist development and consulting. By dedicating herself one hundred percent to her company, Julie has had the opportunity to work with various talented artist, all in very diverse genres; Former One Republic bass player and Singer/Songwriter Tim Myers, Lexicon, DJ C-Minus, Producer/Artist Random Impulse (UK), Portland indie pop/rock band Oh Darling and Oh Darling’s front lady, Jasmine Ash. She recently picked up Detroit Producer/Writer/Mixer/Singer Nathanael Boone and LA Writer/Producer Jacques Brautbar (formerly of Phantom Planet) . Black Unicorn’s Licensing division roster consists of some amazing artists from across the world. (See Licensing Division)
